Day 1: Madrid

Welcome to Spain and to the grand city of Madrid. You will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is for free time, as you prepare for your tour of Spain. Accommodation at the hotel.

Day 2: Madrid

After breakfast you will embark on a panoramic city tour of Madrid; a rather logical initiation into any tour of Spain and one of the best cities to visit in Spain. Overflowing with palaces, museums, and grand squares, Madrid is a truly majestic city. We will see the historical and architectural highlights, as well as contemporary Madrid, including the commercial and financial districts, the Las Ventas Bullring, and a spectacular sight for all football aficionados, the Santiago Bernabéu Football Stadium. In your free afternoon, explore this grand city on your own. It deserves it. Stroll through its streets, visit a museum, and enjoy some people watching over a cafe con leche or a copa de vino. Accommodation at the hotel.

Day 3: Madrid – Cordoba – Seville

This morning we will drive along La Mancha, Does it sound familiar? Of, course it does: Don Quixote de la Mancha! We will take a brief stop at Puerto Lapice, mentioned in the Cervantes novel Don Quixote as a place “de pasada”, a place of rest maybe before starting a new adventure. After crossing through the natural border of “Despeñaperros”, we arrive in Andalusia, the Spain of popular imagination, a sun-kissed land where passion, history, poetry, and drama collide. Arriving in Cordoba, the former capital of the Arab kingdom of Al-Andalus, a famous residence of poets and philosophers, and a seat of learning and cultural diversity, we will take an impressive tour of the city, considered to be one of the best cities to visit in Spain. Our tour takes us to the Mezquita or Mosque-Cathedral, an impressive building and a real gem on our tour of Spain, the atmospheric Jewish quarter, the Juderia, with its intricate network of lanes and buildings decorated with wrought iron, and other city sites protected under auspices of the UNESCO. In the afternoon we reach Seville, the city of Carmen, Don Juan, and Figaro, known for its beauty, passion, and unique atmosphere just waiting for you to explore. Dinner and accommodation at the hotel.

Day 4: Seville

We will discover grand Seville on a morning sightseeing tour, including the famous Royal Alcázar, the Cathedral of Santa Maria (the second-largest in the Catholic world after St. Peters in Rome), the Santa Cruz quarter (a backdrop in “Carmen”, and precisely where the myth of “Don Juan” developed), Maria Luisa Park, and Plaza de España. Afternoon free time is for you to explore and enjoy the sights, sounds, and flavors of this vibrant city, known as the most Spanish city in the whole of Spain, with its narrow streets, abundant sun, palm and orange trees, flamenco and bull fighting, tapas and wine… No wonder it is regularly voted among the 5 best places to visit in Spain. Dinner and accommodation at the hotel. In the evening you may opt for a Flamenco Tour, not just because it is a normal part of any decent tour of Spain, but because this dance is as passionate and mysterious as the city itself.

Day 5: Seville – Granada

Did you know that grand Seville, intimate Cordoba, and spectacular Granada form the Andalusian Golden Triangle? Today our tour of Spain will lead us among an endless number of olive trees to Granada, the last stronghold of the Moorish Kingdoms up to 1492. Say the name and most people think of the famous sand-colored Alhambra, which we visit along with the beautifully manicured Generalife Gardens, former place of leisure for the kings of Granada, an inspiration for several authors with its sound and sights, such as in the Tales of the Alhambra by W. Irving. Enjoy your free afternoon in one of the best cities to visit in Spain and the city that for many embodies the country’s essence – the spirited people, rich history, warm climate, narrow streets littered with flower pots, traditional Flamenco shows, and a free tapa with every glass of wine. Dinner and accommodation at the hotel, with an optional Gipsy Flamenco show at Sacromonte Square.

Day 6: Granada – Valenica

Today, our tour of Spain takes us to the Mediterranean coast. After Via Murcia, known as the ‘huerta’, the Orchard of Europe along the Segura river, we continue north via Alicante, the main city of the Costa Blanca. Our destination is Valencia, the “Medina al-Tarab” (City of Sand), one of the oldest cities in Spain, the city of Arts and Sciences, one of Spain’s biggest markets and ports, disputed home of the Holy Grail, and the undisputed home of Spain’s national dish paella. This incredible city boasts three UNESCO sites and magnificent modern architecture, which is reason enough to visit this, by all means, one of the best places to visit in Spain and along the Mediterranean coast. Accommodation at the hotel.

Day 7: Valencia – Barcelona

Let’s enjoy a morning city tour of Valencia, including the old center, past the old riverbed of the Turia River and into the city’s most avant-garde complex, the “Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias”. Early in the afternoon we will continue our tour of Spain, driving along the Mediterranean coast to Catalunya, via Tarragona, the Roman Tarraco, and reaching Barcelona, Spain’s principal Mediterranean city. The Catalonian capital is vibrant, full of life and culture, jaw-dropping architecture (by the famous architect Gaudí, symbol of Catalonian modernism), a mouth-watering culinary legacy, and plenty of other treats, making it for many people all over the world one of the best places to visit in Spain, as well as in Europe. Accommodation at the hotel.

Day 8: Barcelona

Today, we will get to know Barcelona, starting with a city tour, roaming the main avenues with impressive modernist buildings by Gaudí, among others the La Pedrera and the Casa Milá, both declared World Heritage buildings. We will admire the views of the skyline, the harbor, the Olympic ring, and the port from Montjuïc Park, perched on a rocky outcrop above the city. This afternoon is yours to explore this exciting city. There is never a dull moment on its famous pedestrian street Las Ramblas or the busy square of Placa Reial, or you can soak up the city’s rich cultural life or indulge in Catalonian culinary delights, not to be missed on any tour of Spain. Accommodation in the hotel.

Day 9: Barcelona

After breakfast you will be transferred to the airport and begin your journey home.
