Day 1: Madrid

Welcome to Spain and to the grand city of Madrid. You will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. Enjoy your free time to explore Spain’s capital city. Madrid is usually not the first choice for a short Spain package tour, but this city is full of wonders and surprises. It has long been Europe’s cultural capital and so it is one of the best places to visit in Spain when it comes to arts and culture. Accommodation at the hotel.

Day 2: Madrid

After breakfast you will embark on a panoramic city tour of Madrid; a rather logical initiation into any Spain package tour and one of the best cities to visit in Spain. Overflowing with palaces, museums, and grand squares, Madrid is a truly majestic city. We will see the historical and architectural highlights, as well as contemporary Madrid, including the commercial and financial districts, the Las Ventas Bullring, and a spectacular sight for all football aficionados, the Santiago Bernabéu Football Stadium. In your free afternoon, explore this grand city on your own. It deserves it. Stroll through its streets, visit a museum, and enjoy some people watching over a cafe con leche or a copa de vino. Accommodation at the hotel.

Day 3: Madrid – Caceres – Cordoba

After breakfast we drive westwards towards Extremadura, homeland to many discoverers of the new world. Arrive at Caceres, the province’s capital, which was declared a World Heritage City. It might not be one of the most well-known of all the places to visit in Spain, and it might not appear on every Spain package tour, but it still has some fascinating stories to tell. After all, it’s not called Ciudad Monumental for no reason. With its Roman, Moorish, and conquistador architecture, its medieval walls, and stork-topped watchtowers, it actually managed to avoid the brunt of European wars and remain surprisingly intact. As such, it became the first Spanish city listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Stroll through the old town, soak up all its stories and its history before continuing south towards Cordoba, once the capital of the Caliphate. Dinner and accommodation at the hotel.

Day 4: Cordoba – Seville

This morning, we take a guided tour of the city, which is considered to be one of the most beautiful cities and places to visit in Spain, visiting the Mezquita or Mosque-Cathedral, one of the most beautiful buildings you will see on this Spain package tour. We will then explore the city’s atmospheric Jewish quarter, the Juderia, with its intricate network of lanes and buildings decorated with wrought iron, and other city sites under the auspices of UNESCO. We then continue on towards Seville, the capital of Southern Spain and a city not to be missed on any Spain package tour, both for its beauty and its lively atmosphere, the city made famous by Carmen, Don Juan, and Figaro. The afternoon is at leisure for you to discover the delights of Seville. Dinner and accommodation at the hotel.

Day 5: Seville

We discover grand Seville on a morning sightseeing tour, including the famous Royal Alcázar, the Cathedral of Santa Maria (the second-largest in the Catholic world after St. Peter’s in Rome), the Santa Cruz quarter (a backdrop in “Carmen”, and precisely where the myth of “Don Juan” developed), Maria Luisa Park, and Plaza de España. Afternoon free time is for you to explore and enjoy the sights, sounds, and flavors of this vibrant city. Dinner and accommodation at the hotel. In the evening you may opt for a Flamenco Tour, not because it is usually a part of any decent Spain package tour, but because this dance is as passionate and mysterious as the city itself.

Day 6: Seville – Ronda – Costa Del Sol

This morning, we head south, enjoying the landscape and stopping in Ronda, one of Andalusia’s famous ‘white’ villages, loaded with history. It was built on a rocky outcrop and split in half by a deep river gorge, named the El Tajo, which was created by the river Guadalevin. The river is spanned by an 18th-century arched bridge, the Puento Nuevo, and tall whitewashed houses are perched along the edge. One of the most picturesque places to visit in Spain, Orson Wells and Ernest Hemingway both lived here for a while, and one of the scenes in the book For Whom the Bell Tolls takes place in Ronda. You will take some free time to stroll through the quaint town. Continue on to the Costa del Sol, the perfect playground for sun worshipers on any Spain package tour.  More free time in the afternoon. Dinner and accommodation at the hotel.

Day 7: Costa Del Sol – Granada

First beakfast, then departure towards the city of Granada, the last stronghold of the Moorish Kingdoms up to 1492. The city is home to the Alhambra Palace and the meticulously managed Generalife gardens, which are the most visited places to visit in Spain and one of the most beautiful and memorable attractions in Europe. They have been included in Spain package tours for a century and continue to amaze visitors, even inspiring several literary works, such as the Tales of the Alhambra by W. Irving. Dinner and accommodation at the hotel. Optional Gipsy Flamenco show in the Sacromonte quarter.

Day 8: Granada – Toledo – Madrid

Let’s drive northward today to the impressive Imperial city of Toledo – a World Heritage City – where in the 13th century Christians, Moors, and Jews all lived together. The city’s churches, mosques, synagogues, and other buildings from this era give Toledo its unique and attractive combination of architectural styles. A real thriving hub of Spanish art, history, and spirituality, the whole town is a National Monument, included in many Spain package tours. We will enjoy a short guided tour of this historical old town through its narrow lanes and then visit the famous “Damasquinado” (gold and silver inlaying in iron) factory. Toledo is beyond a doubt one of the most artistic, spiritual, and interesting places to visit in Spain. At last, we continue to Madrid. Accommodation at the hotel.

Day 9: Madrid

After breakfast you will be transferred to the airport and begin your journey home.
